WSL JAWS BIG WAVE EVENT

The WSL Jaws big wave event was insane, to the third level of insane. The Women went first and put on quite a show but few waves were completed from the peak. The North Shore’s Emi Erickson dialed into couple makable waves but it was Keala Kennelly proving her bravado and taking the win. The first heat of the men went out and the ocean let loose even more. Giant 30 foot (50-60 faces) waves hooked in and insane drops were attempted and few made, it was virtually unridable by that time and was postponed until the next day. In the morning Jaws was still giant and the the men rode some of the biggest paddle in waves ever in an event. It was Billy Kempers day! He won it by pulling into a big tube, his third win in a row. Right behind, Maui’s Kai Lenny was a force. His air drop of about 30 feet gave us goosebumps as he side slipped slightly and pulled it off. Really mega insane! Congrats to all the big wave surfers, what a couple of days.

MALAMA PUPUKEA WAIMEA RESTORATION DESTROYED

After so much effort to try and restore the Shark Cove area with native plants and to help with erosion
Malama Pupukea lost its plants and need help to redo the cliffs there. Giant surf washed away all the plants and wash away walking paths as well. A clean- up was held but they are going to need much more help
and plenty of donations. Malama Pupukea Waimea is an awesome organization please help how you can. http://malamapupukeawaimea. org

RED BULL QUEEN OF THE BAY A NO GO

The Red Bull Queen of the Bay competition was a no go again this season. Thank you for all your patience through the holding period for this year’s Red Bull Queen of the Bay. The waiting period ended on
November 21st and of course the big swell hit 5 days later. Things could change next season, waiting period could be extended and some other changes made. Thanks for all the support from the community, the City and state and all of the crew!
