During the annual Aloha ‘Aina Recycling Drive at the end of August, the Sunset Beach ElementarySchool community was able to divert approximately 6,000 pounds of “stuff” from landfills. Members of the community recycled scrap metal, electronic waste, used cooking oil, car batteries, and donations for Goodwill and Habitat for Humanity. Ms. Cummings’ 6th graders did an outstanding job as volunteers at the event, and we are extremely grateful to Kokua Hawaii Foundation for helping our school organize the event with wonderful recycling partners: Schnitzer Steel, T&N Recycling, Hawaiian Hope, Habitat for Humanity, Pacific Biodiesel, Interstate Batteries, RRR Recycling, and Goodwill Hawaii.
