“The Marconi Wireless Telegraph Station once-grand Powerhouse, a historic structure, was mostly demolished over the holidays.” Unauthorized Demolition Occurs At Historic Marconi Telegraph Site On North Shore – Honolulu Civil Beat
Like the Hale‘iwa Theater, Abe’s Gas Station and others, even if they are listed as historic buildings, in historic districts or are more than 50 years old, they are not immune to being demolished. Vigilance is the best antidote to this problem. We must be vigilant when it comes to the buildings we are trying to protect on the North Shore.
Luckily, the North Shore has some very effective activists. We will see more and more rogue buildings and demolition in the future as people want space, and also because agricultural land is cheap by comparison to other land.
Together we can be very effective and a force with which to be reckoned if we remain vigilant.
