The COVID-19 pandemic has impacted the lives of people around the world, especially in the world of education. School campuses are closed in the state of Hawaii, and students are engaged in distance learning for the remainder of the school year. As we approach the end of the school year, many seniors are wondering what will become of their graduation program.
On May 23, 2020, Waialua High and Intermediate School’s (WHIS) graduating class of 2020 will hold its graduation program. While many schools are choosing to conduct their graduation program virtually, WHIS will be conducting their graduation program live; it will be in a “drive-in” style format. Students with their families will park in the WHIS gym parking lot (one car per graduate and family). The graduation program will be simultaneously broadcast over an FM station, thus allowing families to listen to the program in their vehicles. Graduates will exit their cars by row, approach the stage (while adhering to social distancing guidelines), pose for a picture, and return to their car. Also included in the graduation program will be student speakers as well as a class song.
We wish the very best for the Class of 2020!
