The 17th Annual John Kelly Awards celebrated activists and organizations making positive waves in our community to protect our ocean. This annual event benefits the work of Surfrider Foundation O‘ahu Chapter and featured a dinner by Ke Nui Kitchen and was hosted at the beautiful Waimea Valley with music by local legend Henry Kapono along with Noelani Love and Jerome James.

Nearly 300 people attended the John Kelly Awards to celebrate environmental activism. The silent auction featured a staycation at Kahala Resort, a brand new surfboard by Vissla, and 2 round trip tickets with Alaska Airlines. This beautiful evening hosted on the North Shore of O‘ahu gives community members and ocean lovers a fun way to support the work of Surfrider Foundation in their work to protect our
ocean, beaches, and waves.

Surfrider hosts monthly beach cleanups across the island and advocates for policy solutions, such as the successful plastic bag ban along with the ban on toxic sunscreens. Surfrider is currently working with a coalition of businesses and organizations to pass Bill 40, which would phase out single-use plastics used for takeout over the next couple years across O’ahu.

Acts of Aloha
Thinking of others first. Doing something kind. These are just a couple of what Acts of Aloha is working to bring about more of: An attitude of giving and kindness.

The series is based on Route 99 Hawaii delivering nearly 99 Acts of Aloha awards, with hand written mahalo cards, to individuals and organizations nominated largely by Hawaii residents. Thirty of the awards winners awardees hail from the North Shore.

Now, these Acts of Aloha will be documented in a series of videos co-produced by Evoke Media. The launch of this unique video series took place with an Ice Cream Social on November 16.

The recognition by their peers and sometimes, strangers, is captured on film and on location. For more information about Acts of Aloha and to view a preview video, visit: https://www.facebook.com/ActsofAloha
