It was super, all-time Pipeline and Josh Moniz, 21, claimed the Volcom Pipe Pro in insane real Pipeline waves, so far the best Pipeline of the season. Moniz, just 21, excelled throughout the competition which saw nearly perfect surf every day of the event. Moniz is practically a local on the North Shore, a Billabong and HIC team rider, and from a famous surfing family. “One hundred percent this is the best win of my professional career,” Moniz commented afterwards. “The only win that will get better is a Pipe Masters so hopefully down the line I can do one of those. But for now, this is by far the greatest win, I’m going to remember this forever.” It was so close! Moniz took the win with a 17.56 over Jamie O’Brien’s 17.43 and after O’Brien scored a ten point ride. The judges gave Moniz the nod this time and the beach went off. The event was a World Surf League qualifying series event, a QS 3,000 contest. WSL.com for more info. SURFRIDER OAHU 2018 The Surfrider Foundation is kicking off a campaign for 2018. The mission is the protection of the Worlds ocean, beaches, and waves. They network on a grass roots level to lobby policy with the governments around the world. In 2018 they want to get more people activated and engaged in making a difference within the organization.
